FAQs
Ayurveda is a system of medicine that originated in Ancient India over 5,000 years ago! It has survived the test of time, and is still thriving to this day! In fact, Ayurveda has grown a lot in the last decade here in the U.S., and it is expected to continue to expand, as more and more schools are popping up here! Ayurveda is an Eastern Medicine, so it looks at each living being in terms of Doshas, Elements, and Qualities.
Doshas are energies that govern all the functions in the mind and body. There are 3 Doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha is a different combination of the 5 great elements – Ether (Space), Air, Fire, Water, and Earth.
- Vata = Ether + Air
- Pitta = Fire + Water
- Kapha = Earth + Water
Ayurveda’s guiding principles are to find what elements and qualities are missing in the body and mind, and to bring them in through foods, spices, herbs, and practices that increase those qualities and elements. Like increases like, and Opposites Balance!
Since all natural thing on this Earth (Humans, Animals, Plants, Fruits & Vegetables, Herbs, Minerals, etc) are made up of these 5 elements, when we eat foods made from fresh ingredients and take herbal formulations that are all natural with no synthetics, our body can easily identify the elements contained within them and incorporate them into the body.
When you work with me, I will create a completely customized protocol for you, which includes specific foods and spices that will help you and which are best to avoid, as well as specific lifestyle recommendations that will pacify the aggravated doshas and bring in the qualities YOU need.
Ayurveda has a long track record of helping people heal from the discomforts, dis-eases, and disorders that we routinely experience. Whether you are just feeling a little off, or are experiencing a more severe challenge, Ayurveda can assist in helping you feel better.

Ayurveda translates to “The Science of Life”. If you are alive, Ayurveda can benefit you! In fact, in India there are Ayurvedic Doctors who specialize in various Animals, because we can apply the same Ayurvedic principles to humans and animals!
Everyone, from Infant to elderly, and everyone in between have a special place in Ayurveda.
An Ayurvedic Consultation is much different than a typical Western Provider appointment. First, I spend a lot of time with each client – the initial consultation is typically between 1.5 – 2 hours, and each follow-up appointment is usually 45 minutes – 1 hour in length. During this time, we do a deep dive into your health history, family history, current diet and lifestyle, current functions of each bodily system, and health goals. Then, we get into discovering your doshic constitution (the unique balance of your doshas at the time of birth) and your current doshic imbalance (how far your doshas have deviated from their constitution).
Ayurveda looks at the hands, eyes, and tongue, so don’t be alarmed when I ask you to stick out your tongue!
Yes, I do see children for consultations, as long as there is a parent or legal guardian present the whole time. I will offer specialized dietary recommendations, lifestyle practices (I will teach the parent to do with their child if the child is unable to do it themselves), and simple herbs and spices to utilize in the diet. There are very safe formulations that can be adapted for child use as well, if needed.
No! Everyone is welcome to study, practice, or learn more about Ayurveda. There is sometimes a misconception that since Ayurveda was born in ancient India, that it is tied to the Hindu Religion. My teacher would say, “Ayurveda wears Indian Clothing” – meaning, it can sometimes appear that there is Hindu religion linked with Ayurveda, however, that is just because Ayurveda and Hinduism both originated from the same place! You may believe whatever faith you feel called to, with no judgment or conflictions with Ayurveda.
With the influx of “Natural” and “Herbal” Supplements, Pills, and Formulations easily available on the market, it is natural to wonder if these are all safe. I cannot testify to All the Ayurvedic Brands available, but in my practice I ONLY utilize the brands that I know are prepared in the traditional ways, purified, and tested safe from heavy metals and toxicities.
Since Ayurveda looks at a person as a WHOLE (Body, Mind, and Spirit together), and we look through the lens of the doshas, elements, and qualities that make up every living thing, Ayurveda is a very safe system of medicine. By mapping out what qualities and elements are missing in the body, and matching it with foods, herbs, and practices that increase those specific qualities and elements, we can holistically and naturally pacify those conditions without side effects. The body can utilize what it recognizes, which is what Ayurveda is all about.
“The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects.” – Shubhra Krishan
